La Jolla
Cove is a beautiful location for snorkeling due to its scenic location
and the fact that it lies within the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Park
Ecological Reserve. Because hook and line and spear fishing are illegal
here, marine life is diverse and plentiful. Parking can be a little
difficult, but it can be found. Most of our
Great Escapes snorkeling trips are done at Jolla Cove and our August
2006 trip was no exception. After packing a 15-passenger van full of fellow
Point Loma students, we make the
quick twenty minute drive from the school to Jolla Cove. Tim O'Brian, drove
the van for this trip. When we arrived, everyone unloaded the van and headed
down to the beach, while Tim went to find parking. Most of
the morning was spent in the water, snorkeling and swimming around. Although
the ocean was not especially cold, wet suits helped to make the trip
comfortable and extended our time in the water. We encountered a number of
marine organisms including topsmelt, garibaldi, lobster, bass, and round
rays. |
